Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on February 11, 1954.
The arms are those of the Von Keutschach family, who had their estate in the area. The family was first mentioned in 1299 and became very influential in the 15th and 16th century. One of the most famous family members was Leonhard von Keutschach, Archbishop of Salzburg. The family got extinct in 1773.
The original family arms show a beetroot. The municipality was granted the complete arms of the family as used in the 16th century as municipal arms, including helmets and crests. These feudal symbols are officially no longer allowed under Austrian law, but the arms were not formally changed. The municipality uses both the shield only (as shown above) as well as the full arms (shown below).
