Origin/meaning

Kappelrodeck already had its own council in the 15th century. The council used a seal with the bend and an escutcheon, again with a bend. The colours of the two shields are not known. In the 19th century the municipality suddenly strted to use a canting chapel in its seal. The chapel was not placed in a shield.

When the municipality applied for a new seal and arms, the State Archives proposed arms based on the oldest seals. The arms were described as a combination of the arms of Strassburg and Baden, as the territory was partly ruled by the bishops of Strassburg and the Counts of Baden. The municipality, however, did not agree with this proposal and continued to use a chapel.

In 1955 the State Archives proposed new arms, in which the arms of Baden in their original proposal were replaced by the chapel. These arms were granted on November 16, 1956 and are still used.
