State : Brandenburg
District (Kreis) : Märkisch-Oderland (until 1994 Strausberg)
Additions : 1997 Wegendorf; 2003 Buchholz, Bruchmühle, Gielsdorf, Wesendahl
Official blazon
(de) In Rot über grünem Schildfuß mit silbernem Balken ein spitzbedachter silberner Turm mit einem schwarzen Fenster und vier offenen Nischen; auf der Turmspitze ein viereckiger Aufsatz.
Origin/meaning
The arms were devised in 1947 and are a symbol for the two historical towers in the city and the base of the arms symbolises the nature in the area.
The oldest medieval seals of the city showed the eagle of Brandenburg above some hills.
Hupp showed in the 1920s rather different arms, see below. This composition was taken from an early 19th century seal of the town. The meaning of the symbols is not known.
