KREUZWERTHEIM

State : Bayern
District (Kreis) : Main-Spessart (until 1972 Marktheidenfeld)
Additions : 1972 Wiebelbach; 1977 Unterwittbach; 1978 Röttbach

Wappen von Kreuzwertheim

Official blazon

Geteilt von Silber und Blau; oben ein wachsendes schwarzes Marktkreuz; unten drei zwei zu eins gestellte silberne heraldische Rosen mit goldenen Butzen.

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on December 2, 1958.

The arms show in the upper half the typical cross, and in the base the arms of the Counts of Wertheim.

The town was originally named Wertheim, but to avoid confusion with the other town Wertheim, the name was changed in the 14th century. The addition Kreuz- (cross) was based on the large cross on the market square. This cross also appeared on the seals of the town (oldest existing seal dates from 1600).
