BERGHEIM (ERFT) (BM)

State : Nordrhein-Westfalen
Incorporated into : 1972 Rhein-Erft Kreis

Bergheim.kreis.jpg

Origin/meaning :
The arms were granted on March 10, 1937.

The arms show the lion of Jülich, as the main part of the district was owned by the counts of Jülich, holding a typical coal-mining pick-axe (Kohlenhacke). The tool represents the brown coal mining in the county, whereas the wheat-crown represents the agriculture.

Literature : Stadler, K. : Deutsche Wappen - Bundesrepublik Deutschland. Angelsachsen Verlag, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
