History : Formed at Larkhill in March 1912.
Official blazon
On a grey monolith a cockatrice.
Motto : Tertius primus erit = The third shall be first
Origin/meaning
The Monolith refers to the location of the Squadron near Stonhedge when formed. The Cockatrice symbolises the early days of flying. The Motto alludes to the fact that the Squadron was the first to fly heavier then air machines. The Badge was approved in September 1937.
