Origin/meaningThe arms were officially adopted in 1910. The arms are based on the seal of the city dating from the 16th century. The arms show a small shield with unknown symbol, and St. Sebastian, the local patron saint. The small symbol has been described as the arm-protection of a harnass. The municipality decided in 1910 to adopt the small shield as arms and St. Sebastian as supporter. As no colours were known the colours of the Mark region (silver and red) were chosen.
