Origin/meaning

Wunstorf was already mentioned as a city in 1180 and was the capital of the powerful Counts of Roden.

The oldest seal dates from the late 13th century and already shows a gate with a lion. The lion is derived from the arms of the Counts of Roden. All later seals and images show the same composition, but the color and the size and shape of the castle have changed considerably during the centuries.
