ESPLUGUES DE LLOBREGAT

Region : Catalonia
Province : Barcelona

Escudo de Esplugues de Llobregat

Official blazon

Escut caironat: d'atzur, una mà destra palmellada d'argent; el peu d'or, quatre pals de gules. Per timbre una corona mural de poble.

Origin/meaning

The arms have been officially granted on 16th June 1983.

The hand Argent on Azure is the traditional identifying sign of the arms of Esplugues, and it may be related to the canting arms of the baron of Maldà ("mà" in Catalan meaning hand), Rafael Amat i de Cortada (1746-1818), the owner of Can Cortada, the most important manor in the town. Esplugues was situated in the territory of Barcelona, and belonged to the Crown: because of this they show too the royal arms of Catalonia-Aragon (four pales Gules on Or).
