VILAMÒS
Region : Catalonia
Province : Lleida
Official blazon
Escut caironat truncat: 1r d'argent; 2n de sinople. Per timbre, una corona mural de vila.
Origin/meaning
These arms have been officially granted on 2nd September 1992.
The town, placed in Aran valley, at the Pyrenees, was the chief town of the "terçon" of Lairissa (a terçon is one of the six traditional administrative divisions of Aran). The arms show the colours of the valley: Argent for the water of river Garona and the lakes of Vilamòs (Estanh Long, Estanh Redon), together with the snow, that covers the peaks several months a year; Vert is for woods, meadows and fields.
