Origin/meaning
Jönköping is one of the oldest cities in Sweden, it received city rights in 1288. The oldest surviving seal, however, dates from around 1370 and shows a castle, like all other later seals. The arms were granted in 1935, reconfirmed in 1974, and are based on a seal from the 15th century.
