I fält av silver ett rött treberg, belagt med ett armborst, och däröver en av en vågskura bildad blå ginstam, belagd med en lie av silver.
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted in 1946 and registered again in 1991.
The first proposal for a coat of arms was launched in the early 1940s, but it took until 1946 until the arms above were designed. In 1971 the two other municipalities were added, both of which used arms. No combination of the three arms was adopted by the council, so it took until 1991 until the old arms of Älvdalen were officially granted.
The scythe in the upper part has been taken from the 17th century seal of the village, it symbolise both the 'mining' of bog-iron and production of iron tools. The wavy division lines and the mountain in the base symbolise the local geography, rivers and hills. The typical bow was used in medieval times by the farmers to defend themselves and is used as a symbol of vigilance and hunting.
