Origin/meaning
Although Griesbach has been an important town for many centuries, it did not become a city until 1953. The present arms were granted on October 10, 1972 and are based on a (lost) document from 1557 in which the arms were supposedly granted.
In any case, the arms are known as such since 1565. The arms are canting (Gries=rock, Bach=brook), showing a rock in a river. In a 17th century image the rock somehow was shown as a group of houses.
