Origin/meaning
The arms show a double cross, derived from the arms of Mainz, as the city was a possession of the Bishops of Mainz, and belonged to the State of Mainz until 1803.
The arms were officially granted in 1853, but already appeared on the oldest seals of the city (city rights in 1332), known since the end of the 15th century.

The arms by Hupp in the Kaffee Hag albums +/- 1925 |
