Origin/meaning
The village developed in the late Middle Ages around the castle with the same name. Already in the 15th century it was designated as a town (Markt). All seals and images of the city symbols show the canting falcon on a mountain (Berg=mountain, Stein=stone), the oldest known seal dating from 1514. The colours are known since 1562 and are the colours of Bayern. Later the colours changed, but during the last century the old colours were restored.
