Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on August 29, 1997.
The upper half of the arms shows a banner with a cross, symbol for the local patron saint, St. John Baptist. The division line symbolises the Dieteröder Klippen (Cliffs of Dieterode). The lower half shows an axe, a canting symbol for the Rode part of the name. The name means 'The village built on the clearing made by Dieterich'. This forest clearing is symbolised by the axe.
