Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on July 15, 1976.

The arms refer to the history of the area. Already in 902 a large royal estate existed in the area, this is symbolised by the royal eagle. In the 12th century the area became a possesion of the Wadgassen abbey in Lorraine, which is symbolised by the cross for the abbey and the french fleur-de-lys for Lorraine.

The previous arms were granted on July 25, 1968.
