Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on April 15, 1965.

In the 10th century the area became gradually a possession of the Archbishops of Mainz. The left half of the arms shows the Royal Crown, for the former Royal estates and farms, and the wheel of the State of Mainz. The right half shows a spear with a typical decoration, used by the so-called Royal Farmers, a local militia of farmers from the Royal estates.
