Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on October 1, 1957 and registered again in 1983.
The boat in the arms of Österåker is of a sort that is typical for this part of the Stockholm archipelago, a so-called "roslagsskuta". As a role model the ship "Alcea" was taken, built in 1888. The boat was 15 meters long and 5 meters wide. Alcea was used for coastal shipping and transported firewood, timber and other heavy freight to and from Österåker. In 1923 the ship was converted into a motor vessel and survived as a freighter until 1932 when it was scrapped and eventually sunk in the Stavaviken bay.
