Escudo de ouro, uma rosa de vermelho acompanhada por duas quinas de Portugal antigo, passando entre a rosa e as quinas, duas hastes de videira de negro que se passam em contra-chefe e repassam em chefe, folhadas de verde e frutada uma com dois cachos de prata e outra com dois cachos de de púrpura, ficando dois em chefe e dois em contra-chefe com os esmaltes alternados. Coroa mural de cinco torres de prata. Listel branco com a legenda de negro : " CARTAXO ".
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on March 1, 1935 and again on January 1, 1996 with a different mural crown.
The central rose symbolises the local patron saint. St. Mary. The grapes refer to the importance of viticulture in the municipality. Th etwo shields refer to 'Old Portugal' and King Dinis, who granted the first city rights in 1312.
