Arms: Per fesse Vert and Gules on a Fesse Argent between in chief a Garb between two Millrinds Or and in base on Water barry wavy of the third and Azure an Ancient Glley in full sail oars in action proper a Bar wavy of the fifth. |
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on December 15, 1950.
The wheatsheaves refer to agriculture, and the millrinds represent agricultural engineering. The bar symbolises the River Darent in the municipality, and the ancient galley alludes to the Roman occupation of the district.
The crest incorporates the white horse from the arms of the Kent County Council, while the green roundel, or pomeis, suggests an apple in allusion to fruit growing.
