Origin/meaning

Rodenberg received town rights from the Counts of Schaumburg before 1375 and city rights in 1615. The oldest seal dates from the 14th century and shows the arms of the Counts of Schaumburg with the typical Nesselblatt (nettle-leaf) symbol, above a four-topped mountain. The mountain, Berg, is a canting element. In the 17th century the composition appears on a shield, and the number of tops was reduced to two. The colours are used as such since the late 19th century.
