MAÇANET DE CABRENYS

Region : Catalonia
Province : Girona

Macanetc.jpg

Official blazon

Escut caironat: d'or, una maça de sable posada en pal acostada d'una cabra arrestada de gules, a la destra, i d'un roc d'atzur, a la sinistra. Per timbre, una corona mural de vila.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on June 25, 1993.

Canting arms: they show traditionally a "maça" (Catalan for "mallet"). The castle of Maçanet belonged to the barony of Cabrenys, that in 1313 passed to the Rocabertí family. The two other elements in the arms refer to these two families: the goat for Cabrenys, and the chess-rook for Rocabertí.
