OCHTRUP
State : Nordrhein-Westfalen
District (Kreis) : Steinfurt
Additions : 1890 Kirchspiel Ochtrup, Wigbold Ochtrup; 1969 Langenhorst, Welbergen
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted in 1950 after the town had received city rights in 1949. The arms are based on a 17th century seal with the Agnus Dei.
The arms replaced older arms granted in 1939, which were not based on historical arms or seals of the town.
These arms showed in blue a silver eagle with on its breast a small shield of silver, with a wavy base and above the base a red city wall with a tower. These arms combined the arms of the Von Schlade family (main shield) with an image of the remnants of the fortifications that were built in the town in the late 16th century. Before 1939 the town already used the Agnus Dei as arms, but these were not officially granted.
