BESIGHEIM
State : Baden-Württemberg
District (Kreis) : Ludwigsburg
Official blazon
In Rot auf grünem Hügel eine zweitürmige, gezinnte silberne Burg mit offenem Rundbogentor.
Origin/meaning
The early history of the city is rather complicated. The town was granted city rights before 1280 and was until 1504 a possession of the Counts of Baden. From 1504-1524 in belonged to Württemberg, from 1524-1595 again to Baden and since 1595 again to Württemberg.
The town was situated between two castles of the Counts of Baden and the oldest seal, dating from the 14th century, shows this; a castle with two towers and in the gate the arms of Baden. The latter was replaced in 1595 by the antler of Württemberg. In 1694 the small shield was removed and the arms haven't changed since. The present arms were adopted by the city in 1962 and differ slightly in shape and colours from the older arms.
