GROSSBREITENBACH

State : Thüringen
District (Kreis) : Ilmkreis

Wappen von Grossbreitenbach

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms are based on the 16th century seal of the town. The savage most likely is derived from the arms of the counts of Schwarzburg, who used a savage as supporter and who ruled the town at the time. The savage holds a complicated lock and keys. The lock was supposedly used on a fence on the main road through the village, to protect the town. The lock still exists in the town hall. The mountain in the base symbolises the mountains in the area. The herbs on the mountain symbolise the herb gathering practised in the area.
