Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on September 1, 1977.
Nagold was a possession of the Counts of Hohenberg since the early 13th century. The counts also granted the city rights in the early 14th century. In 1363 the city became part of Württemberg. The oldest known seal of the city dates from 1352 and shows the divided shield of the Counts of Hohenberg. In the 17th century a canting nail (Nagel) was added to the arms. Initially the nail was silver, but later the nail was changed into blue. The arms have thus not changed since.
