ZIEGENHAIN
State : Hessen
District (Kreis) : Schwalm-Eder Kreis (until 1973 Ziegenhain)
Incorporated into : 1970 Schwalmstadt
Official blazon
(de) Im von Silber und Schwarz geteilten Schild ein schreitender Ziegenhahn (Hahn mit rotbewehrtem Ziegenkopf) in verwechselten Farben, oben vorn ein achtstrahliger roter Stern.
Origin/meaning
The arms are canting (Hain = Hahn = cock) and appeared for the first time in a seal of 1519 and later in all seals and images. The colours changed regularly, the present arms are the most used colours. The star is the star of Waldeck and is derived from the arms of the arms of the first counts of Ziegenhain, who founded the city and granted city rights in 1280. The seals until 1519 showed either the star or a figure of a count.
