LEIPPE-TORNO
State : Sachsen
District (Kreis) : Bautzen (until 2008 Kamenz)
Incorporated into : 2007 Lauta
Official blazon
- (de)
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted in 1992.
The right half of the arms shows a shepard with a sheep. Tornow was first mentioned in 1568 as a sheep station in the Hoyerswerda estate. Sheep farming was also an important activity in the three villages in the municipality. The linden and oak branches symbolise the local forests. The linden is also a canting symbol for Leippa (lipa is linden in the local Sorbic language). The oak also symbolises the very old oak in the village of Torno. The colours are those of the Oberlausitz region, to which the municipality belongs.
