STOLPE AN DER PEENE

State : Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
District (Kreis) : Vorpommern-Greifswald
Amt: Amt Anklam-Land

Wappen von Stolpe an der Peene

Official blazon

  • (de) Geteilt, oben in Silber ein beringtes, blaues Tatzenkreuz, unten in Blau eine doppelreihig in Rot und Silbern geschachtelte Leiste.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on August 7, 2020.

The arms refer to the local abbey, founded by Duke Ratibor I of Pommern for the Benedictan Order in 1153, which played a major role in the local history. The abbey was abandoned in 1535. The abbey ruins are still a tourist attraction in the village.

The upper half shows a medieval church window and refers to the abbey church, one of the oldest stone churches in the region. The base shows a bar, taken from the arms of the Cistercian order, to which the monks belonged since 1304.
