Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on December 31, 1971.

The village was already mentioned in the 8th century when charlemagne granted it to the Fulda Abbey. The village belonged several centuries to the State of Fulda and this is symbolised by the black cross of Fulda. In late medieval times the Lords of Herbilstadt ruled the village as vassals of the Abbey. Their arms are shown in the left half of the shield.
