Origin/meaning
The arms were granted in 1954 and are based on an image in the roll of arms of the vassals of the State of Bamberg from 1603. The upper part shows the lion of the State of Bamberg, the lower part is a canting element for the castle, estate and family Radeck, who played a major role in the local history (Rad=wheel).
In 1819 the town had received a totally different coat of arms. The arms showed two silver fleur-de-lis in a blue shield. These were derived from an older, 18th century, seal, showing two fleur-de-lis and a plough-iron. The meaning of these symbols is not known, see image below:
