Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on October 11, 1968.
The eagle indicates that the two villages were free imperial villages in medieval times, in loan from the King from the Archbishops of Trier, hence the cross from the State of Trier.
The combination already appeared on the (only) known seal of Ellenz, dating from 1363, with the text S(igillum).UNIVERSITATIS.DE.ELLENZE, see below.
