Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on March 1, 1938.
The town developed around the Beetzendorf castle near the Jeetze river, hence the castle and waves in the arms. The three eagle-legs in the gate are taken from the arms of the Von der Schulenburg family, who owned the castle in the 14th century. The eagle legs were also used as arms of the local estate, see below.
