Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on July 31, 1936.

The arms show the lion of Nassau-Saarbrücken, as the city was part of the county of Nassau-Saarbrücken, holding a hammer. Dudweiler was already mentioned in the 9th century but became important in the 17th century as a mining town. Dudweiler became a city in 1962. The hammer in the arms represent the mining in the city.

Originally the arms also had a bordure as in the arms of the city of Saarbrücken, but this was removed in 1955.
