Origin/meaning
The arms were granted in 1929.
The lower part shows the local brook, the Hardenberger Bach, which was called Navigisa in the 9th century and from which the town's name is derived. The tower is the local Wasserburg, a former castle, and seat of the Lords of Hardenberg, who ruled the city as vassals of the counts of Berg. The small shield shows the arms of the Lords of Hardenberg.
Literature : Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
