In Blau ein aufgerichteter, hersehender goldener Löwe mit roter Zunge und Bewehrung.

Origin/meaning

The arms show the lion of the Counts of Schwarzburg, to which the city historically belonged. The crowned lion is already seen on the oldest, 14^th century, seal of the city. During the early 20th century the arms have been shown in different colours and with or without crown, see below.
