Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on ?

The bends from the coat of arms of the County Wied and the cross of State of Köln are reminiscent of the centuries-long division of the town of Kurtscheid into a district of Wied and a district of Köln, which lasted until 1803.

The mountain in base symbolizes the location of Kurtscheid, the highest municipality in the district of Neuwied and at the same time refers to the root word "-scheid" of the place name, as a watershed between several tributaries of the Wied river.

The golden color symbolizes agriculture, the green the forest in the municipality. The silver cogwheel stands for the former silver and iron ore mines, but also for today's industry.
