Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on April 20, 1928.

The cross is the cross of the State of Köln, to which the area historically belonged. The two first quartes show elements from the arms of two families, which had large possessions in the municipality, the bars from the Von Brempt family and the fleur-de-lys from the Von Donk family. The key is the symbol of St. Peter, for the oldest church of St. Peter in the village. The crosier is the symbol for St. Gotthardus, Bishop of Hildesheim, the local patron saint.
