Origin/meaning
The symbols in the arms first appear on a seal from the late 18th century. In the 19th century they appear in crowned arms in a new seal. The meaning or origin of the symbols is not known. The arms were officially determined in the present colours in 1901.
At the same time the crosses, which originally looked more like Maltese crosses, were slightly changed.
Literature: Zier and Fütterer 1966.
