Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1975.

The arms symbolise the old water mill in Bad Essen. The waves symbolise the prefix Bad, which was added in 1901 to the name of the town. The chief symbolises the castle from the arms of the former district Wittlage, to which the area belonged until 1972.

From 1961-1972 the town used the arms below, which also show the wheel and waves.
