Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on December 23, 1982.

The arms show the lion of the so-called Wildgrafen counts, and the silver bar of the Rheingrafen counts. The two salmon are canting for the Counts of Salm, who were the last Lords of Wendelsheim and successors of the two other dynasties. The arms first appeared on the local seal of 1775.

The arms below were porposed in 1956 and ar eidentical except for the colours of the left half.
