English Shoulder Sleeve Insignia. Description: On a shield 3 1/2 inches (8.89 cm) in height by 3 1/4 inches (8.26 cm) in width blazoned: Per fess Azure and Or a grizzly bear head couped affronté Proper below in chief a bar dancetty of the second inscribed “NORTHWEST” in Blue letters, all within a 1/8 inch (.32 cm) Yellow border.

Origin/meaning

Blue and gold (yellow) are the school colors. The grizzly bear is the school mascot and reflects the cadet’s tenacity for knowledge and strength of body and character. The dancetty bar resembles the letter “W” and reflects the school’s location. The shoulder sleeve insignia was approved on 3 September 1997.
