Official blazon

Geteilt von Rot und Gold; oben ein sechsspeichiges silbernes Rad, unten aus einem grünen Dreiberg aufwachsend drei schwarze Streitkolben, so genannte Morgensterne.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on 1954.

The upper part of the arms shows the wheel of the State of Mainz, as the area belonged to the Prince-Archbishops of Mainz until 1803.

The lower part shows three pointed battle-clubs, which are taken from a 17th century seal of the Amt Schölkrippen (then a district of Mainz). The origin of these figures is not clear, but the addition of the letters M and W indicate that it is the personal arms of one of the local officials. Being a rather unique figure, it was chosen for the new arms.

Literature : Stadler, K., 1964-1971.
