Official blazon
In Blau ein linksgewendetes goldenes Tier, das über einen aus Steinblöcken gefügten und mit einem von Silber und Schwarz gevierten Schildchen belegten silbernen Berg springt.
Origin/meaning
The arms are canting, showing a deer (Tier) on some stones (Steine). The small shield is the arms of the Hohenzollern family, on the 16th century Margraves of Nürnberg and rulers over the area. The first time the arms appear is on a seal dating from 1518. The arms remained unchanged until 1819, when the area had become part of Bayern. The colours were to be the colours of Bayern, blue and silver, both for the main and the small shield. In the late 19th century the original colours were restored.
