Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on November 6, 1986.
The arms show the Turó de Montagut (597 m), the hill where stands the castle of Montagut (11th century) and its church, Santa Maria del Cós; the village is nowadays on the plain, near the river Fluvià. The castle was part of the barony of Castellfollit de la Roca until 1599, when it became the centre of the county of Montagut. The arms show the count's crown at the top and the canting arms of the family Cruïlles (Gules, semé of crosslets Argent), the first counts of Montagut; in Catalan, "cruïlles" remind "little crosses".
