Origin/meaning
The arms are a combination of the quartered arms of the Hohenzollern dynasty and a canting willow (Weide). The willow already appears on the oldest seal of the town, dating from the late 16th century. In the 17th century the willow was combined with the arms of the Margraves of Nürnberg from the Hohenzollern dynasty. The town was ruled by the Hohenzollern family at the time.
In 1819 the colours of the quartered field were changed into silver and blue, the colours of Bayern. In 1839 the old colours were restored and the arms have not changed since.
