Origin/meaning
Neuenstein became a possession of the Princes of Hohenlohe in 1250 and received city rights in 1351. The arms were officially granted by Emperor Karl V in 1525 and show a pick-axe. The axe was derived from the arms of the founders of the town, the Lords of Neuenstein. The official colours were silver and red, but during the centuries many different colours have been used.
