Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on October 6, 1819 and confirmed in 1839.
The arms show St. Lambertus, the local patron saint, holding a small shield. The meaning of the small shield is not known. It is not described in 1819 or 1839 to whom it belonged. Historically the village was part of the Geel estate and the pales can be derived from the arms of the Lords of Berthout (see Geel). But that does not explain the lions.
As the municipality did not indicate colours when applying for the arms, the Dutch Hoge Raad vab Adel granted the arms in the Dutch national colours. After the Belgian independence, the arms were confirmed in 1843, but the colours were not changed.
