COUNTY SIGMARINGEN
German | blazon wanted |
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The County Sigmaringen was a small county located in the present-day German state of Baden-Württemberg. It existed as an independent territory from 1077-1575 when it was incorporated into the Principality of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen. Capital was the city of Sigmaringen.
The arms show a deer from the oldest lords of Sigmaringen in the 12th century. The deer has been the symbol for the (former) county ever since and has been used in the arms of many towns and families.
